 | "I would much prefer to deport American-born homosexuals from the United States than to import them into the United States because we believe homosexuality is destructive to said heterosexual privilege." — Peter Sprigg of the Family Research Council
July 19, 2008The Uniting American Families Act has not yet been passed.
Currently, because same-sex partners are denied the right to marry, they are not afforded equal rights under immigration law. While the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) allows U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents to sponsor their spouses and other members of their immediate family for immigration into the United States, gay men and lesbians do not have the same right to sponsor their same-sex partners. Recently introduced in both the House and in the Senate, the Uniting American Families Act (UAFA) addresses this issue.
The UAFA would allow same-sex partners to be united legally through the U.S. immigration process. The bill would correct the bias in the INA by adding the term "permanent partner" to the law’s definition of family members; therefore, same-sex partners of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents would be eligible for green cards and immigrant visas available to spouses and other family members.

 | a Heinz mayo commercial in the U.K. is pulled after a week July 13, 2008A divorced single mother of three had this to say:
"I told my little brats to shut that damn gay faggotry off. I told them Jesus is the only man another man is allowed to love in this house. I told my oldest Sammy-Jeff to fetch me my beer and cigarettes and then get out of the house as I've had enough of 'em for one day."
An offended Christian parent had this to say:
"I can't believe Heinz would do this to us. After all the hotdogs this family have pounded down their chubby gullets - nothing short of slathered in Heinz mayo and ketchup - they're trying to make us talk to our kids, and about
homosexuality! Isn't that something the schools are supposed to do?
Ted Haggard had this to say:
"Offensive commercials like this should never befall the unwanting public. Such provocativeness should never be viewed by children. Just look at how their soft, supple lips pressed together. I'd bet that in the next one they'll each caress each other, drawing their rough, manly forms together into a tight embrace. Their rugged scents meshing in a
vibrant bouquet of... Err, umm...Praise Jesus!"
An AFA member had this to say:
"I can't believe the audacity Heinz has to force homosexuality and the homosexual agenda into my house, where God and my children are. God is fiercely in love with my children, and doesn't want their innocent minds corrupted by all these media and liberal types who just want to brainwash my kids. What kind of horrible person tries and
brainwashes children with such horrible lies? Why, just last week after Johnny's Christian sports group and before church, I told him that he shouldn't listen to any of this nonsense about homosexuals or evolution or sex education, and that if he says God's prayer fifteen times after bible study tomorrow, that I'd buy him a new baseball bat."

 | May 15, 2008In a 4-3 decision — "We therefore conclude that in view of the substance and significance of the fundamental constitutional right to form a family relationship, the California Constitution properly must be interpreted to guarantee this basic civil right to all Californians, whether gay or heterosexual, and to same-sex couples as well as to opposite-sex couples."

"I will not support an amendment to the constitution that would overturn this state Supreme Court ruling."

Is it better to be trying to pass the all-inclusive bill and fail or to work on the more restricted version with better chance for success? October 20, 2007Under both versions, the bill provides employment protections similar to those of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (also known as "Title VII"), but specifically directed to gay, lesbian, bisexual (and under HR 2015, transgender) employees. The bill is different from Title VII in that it contains exemptions for religious organizations and specific provisions about employer dress codes. Currently, 13 states and the District of Columbia have policies prohibiting both sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination in employment: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Iowa, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.

"Two years ago, I believed that civil unions were a fair alternative," he said at a news conference. "Those beliefs, in my case, have since changed. The concept of a 'separate but equal' institution is not something that I can support."
He said that he wanted his adult daughter, Lisa, and other gay people he knows to have their relationships protected equally under state laws. "In the end, I could not look any of them in the face and tell them that their relationships, their very lives, were any less meaningful than the marriage that I share with my wife, Rana.
